This is a lake near Soldotna Alaska (name unknown) I hiked into this lake with my brother Dan who lives in Soldotna. The hike took about an hour and it was through some of the thickest tundra I have ever seen. The path was about a foot wide and it wound through, over and around sometimes dense forest.
When the trail ended this is what I was looking at. It was awesome, Bald eagles were soaring above the lake and roosting in the trees. The water was pure glass and the lake was totally surrounded with thick forest.
My brother has had a canoe hidden in the woods for a few years and after we patched the holes made by bear teeth we put the boat in the water and shoved off. It was just Dan, his dog and myself along with an awesome lunch of homemade smoked salmon and cheese and crackers that my sister in law Mary had made.
We rowed out into the lake and started fishing. I was the first to catch a great little trout. We caught several before we rowed back in and made the hike back to the truck. I could not believe I was in this place. It was something that until then I had only seen in nature shows and on postcards. We didn't even have a glimpse of another person the entire time we were there. The only thing we saw was one float plane that flew over head.
This is by far one of my favorite places and I hope to return soon. And I thank Dan for taking me there.
